Export–Import Bank President and Chair Reta Jo Lewis was joined by local and national business leaders to discuss EXIM’s priorities, and hear directly from the Michigan business community
Detroit, MI – This week, during Manufacturing Week in Michigan, Newlab at Central Michigan, National Association of Women Business Owners Greater Detroit, and Public Private Strategies were joined by Export–Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) President and Chair Reta Jo Lewis for a roundtable discussion with business leaders and representatives from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) in Detroit.
The discussion was an opportunity for EXIM President and Chair Reta Jo Lewis to connect with Detroit area business owners who are actively engaged in exporting, and share information about Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to reshore jobs, rebuild American manufacturing and strengthen America’s supply chains through programs like the Make More in America Initiative. They also discussed the recently announced Make It In Michigan strategy and heard about how EXIM is leveraging new financing tools to help small businesses grow their international sales and expand into new markets.
“It was a pleasure to meet with business leaders, private sector companies and government representatives across Michigan to have a productive conversation about the ways EXIM helps companies grow through exporting. EXIM financing can be a game changer in not only helping American business owners overcome the challenges that come with exporting their products and services to markets abroad but ensure they can compete and win deals overseas,” said EXIM President and Chair Reta Jo Lewis.
“Newlab Detroit's mission is to create a hard tech ecosystem by providing critical infrastructure like labs and piloting zones, regulatory pathways, and access to capital and customers for founders of emerging technology. This work with Detroit founders - many of whom are driving the future of mobility - will grow American manufacturing and create more jobs in the state of Michigan. We’re thrilled to welcome EXIM Chair Lewis to Detroit and to continue our conversation on how Michigan businesses can succeed in the global marketplace,” said Katie Soven, Head of Membership, Newlab at Michigan Central.
“Women business owners in Detroit are a growing force. The NAWBO Greater Detroit Chapter is honored to be a part of today’s discussion and to not only continue working together to invest in women owned businesses but to also grow American manufacturing. Our members are grateful to hear directly from EXIM leadership about opportunities to grow their businesses," said Mariyah Saifuddin, President, National Association of Women Business Owners Greater Detroit Chapter.
“Bringing together businesses and leaders like EXIM facilitates important conversations and helps drive economic growth and job creation here in Michigan. We’re grateful for EXIM Chair Lewis for being a part of these discussions and for working to strengthen American manufacturing and connect local businesses to the global marketplace to increase American made products & jobs," said Rhett Buttle, Founder and Principal, Public Private Strategies.
