Director, Texas Business Engagement

There is an opportunity to build a new kind of coalition in Texas that allows business leaders to engage in the most pressing issues of today. Core among those issues includes creating a coalition of business leaders dedicated to protecting our democracy, rebuilding trust in institutions, & advancing policy issues that support equitable economic growth and help working families.

Working with partners in greater Houston, across the state of Texas, and with national partners, this is an opportunity for someone operating at the intersection of business and policy to build a meaningful network and mobilize the business community in Houston, and across Texas.

Position Overview

We are seeking an entrepreneurial, passionate, and well-connected Houston-based business leader to cultivate and grow a new network of business voices in Houston and then across Texas. This new network of business voices will engage policymakers and civic leaders on a range of issues including defense of democratic institutions, access to and affordability of health care, and other policies that advance equitable economic growth. A successful candidate will be a builder who creates meaningful connections across partisan lines and with small businesses, large employers, and public officials.

Key Responsibilities

• Creating and fostering relationships with state and local business leaders and organizations, and public officials
• Creating local and state coalitions of businesses and business organizations committed to defending democratic institutions
• Identifying storytellers and advocates for issue campaigns
• Tracking state and local policy developments related to democracy and other priority issue areas
• Convening and leading webinars, briefings, roundtables, and other forums to bring together business leaders in Houston and across Texas
• Identifying opportunities for events or earned media to highlight the business voice and narrative
• Coordinate with outside partners on the planning and execution of advocacy and organizing projects as needed
